HTC’s new flagship phone is here

Sometimes it seems like the HTC name gets lost at sea when we start talking about — and comparing — high-end smartphones. Well, not anymore.

This new model — the U12+ — runs an Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box and can most certainly take a swipe at the Samsungs and LGs currently on the market. The U12+ is the only version, there’s no U12… a swipe at Apple, dare I say?

Boasting things we have come to expect out of new and pricey smartphones, the U12+ has an almost edge-to-edge screen sporting a 6-inch LCD display with no notch, a fantastic camera on both the front and back — dual camera on both for portrait mode —fast charging capabilities, no headphone jack, and it’s water-resistant.

But what’s really cool (to iPhone users) are the storage capabilities: the phone has 64 GB and 128 GB options, but users can opt to add their own microSD card, up to 2 TB. Also squeezable edges and a new feature called “Sonic Zoom” where when you zoom in during the recording of a video, the microphones will directionally shift to accommodate and capture better sound.

The phone comes in ceramic black, flame red or translucent blue — the blue version actually allowing owners to see into the guts of their phone.

In terms of pricing, the models start at $800 for the 64 GB model and $850 for the 128 GB model. According to Business Insider, the flame red version will be available starting in the fall.
