Americans Stunned by Terrorist Attacks

NEW YORK CITY – One of the planes that crashed into the Trade Center was American Airlines Flight 11, hijacked after takeoff from Boston to to Los Angeles, according to American Airlines. American Airlines issued a statement saying it had “lost” two aircraft: flight 11 with 92 people aboard, and Flight 77 from Washington to Los Angeles, carrying 64 people.

In Pennsylvania, United Airlines Flight 93, a Boeing 757 en route from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco, crashed about 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. It was not clear if the crash was related to the disasters elsewhere. In a statement, the airline also said it was concerned about another plane, Flight 175, a Boeing 767 bound from Boston to Los Angeles.
America Under Attack

Shortly after 9 AM New York time, two hijacked passenger planes, one possibly being a 767, flew directly into each one of the towers of the World Trade Center. Located in the middle of New York’s financial district, the streets became chaos as scared Americans dashed down the streets to escape the danger.

After this attack took place, another attack collapsed part of the U.S. military headquarters as an aircraft crashed into the helicopter pad at the Pentagon, according to recent reports.

Due to the damage from the planes, at around 10 AM New York time, the first 110 story World Trade Center tower collapsed. The second tower collapsed 30 minutes later.

Authorities had been trying to evacuate the 50,000 people who work in the twin towers, but many are believed to be trapped.

The violence continued when at 10:20 AM EST, the Associated Press reported a car bomb explosion outside the State Department.

Chaos continues as debris is all over New York City. Airports around the country have been closed, possibly fearing more hijackings.

The ash on the streets in New York is two to three inches deep in some places.

There are reports that more planes were headed toward locations in Chicago. A large plane, perhaps headed toward Chicago, crashed at 10 AM local time about 80 miles south-east of Pittsburgh. The plane was believed to be a 767.
