Toronto Raptors Rumors: Greg Monroe best off season target?

Christopher Walder of Bleacher Report has made several suggestions to strengthen the team for next season and adding Detroit Pistons power forward Greg Monroe is tops on his list. The 24-year-old has been rumored on the move for the past two years, but with no trade taking place, he will likely leave via free agency this summer.

The former first round pick averaged 15.9 points and over 10 rebounds this season, but despite his production, Detroit is counting on Andre Drummond to lead this squad in the future. Monroe has averaged over 14 points and nine rebounds in his four years in the league and would become a great asset if Toronto makes a move to sign the youngster.

Besides his offensive capabilities, the seven-footer is also dominating in the paint, averaging over a block per game and that defensive effort could make this a team to watch in the 2015-16 NBA season.

Another option for the Toronto Raptors is Indiana Pacers forward David West. The 34-year-old veteran would add some leadership to the team, plus bring some playoff experience that is lacking from this squad. West averaged 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds this season, but has averaged over 17 points in a season just a couple years back.

If the front office wants to use the draft for help, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson could be available and would bring a defensive minded player into the mix, but for this franchise to take that next step, adding a player with experience and a proven track record in the league is a must, especially if they want to get farther than just the first round of the playoffs next season.
