Toronto Raptors Rumors: Top trade targets entering free agency

With few big name stars willing to go north of the border, Ujiri will likely need to use a trade to acquire the talent they need to go beyond the first round of the playoffs in 2016.

Rumors have surfaced that Taj Gibson could become a prime target for the franchise and a closer look at his contract and the Chicago Bulls roster and it seems a deal is likely at some stage this summer.

Chicago already has a deep front court and the Bulls added rookie Bobby Portis. Sean Deveney of The Sporting News had already reported that Gibson could be on the way out of the “windy city” and with the drafting of a 6’11” power forward, the former USC star would see a decrease in minutes.

The veteran forward averaged over 10 points and six rebounds in just 26 minutes per game last year, numbers that are comparable to his career stats, but what the numbers don’t show are his willingness to play tough defense and do the little things to help a team win basketball games, both of which this franchise needs after losing to Washington in the first round pf the playoffs this past season.

Zack Buckley of Bleacher Report and an NBA featured columnist has reported that the former first round pick is one of the most likely players to get moved in the coming weeks and Deveney believes Toronto is one of a handful of squads that could use his skill set.

The Raptors have the talent in the back court to play with any team in the Eastern Conference and adding a player like Gibson could be the move that takes this franchise that one step higher they need to be in order to compete for a championship.
