On May 13, American swimmer Michael Andrew had a major milestone to be proud of. He shattered the U.S. Open Record in the men’s 100 meter breaststroke race.

Andrew clocked 58.67 seconds, which was a new Championship Record and a U.S. Open Record. “It feels great,” he exclaimed. “The swim felt amazing. There are a lot of things that we have been working on coming off this morning’s swim. Overall, I still feel like there are so many things that I can adjust to be faster for the Olympic Trials, which is really exciting.”

“To swim such a huge personal best, almost half a second, coming into this meet and to know that there is a lot of room to improve means that we are in a really good spot,” he said.

The TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis was the final stop in the 2021 season. When asked to reflect on the greatest lesson that he learned in these TYR Pro Swim Series meets, he said, “I love to race. I realize that the more I race, the more I get to learn about how I am racing and what goes into those swims. It has been really nice to end our stops here in Indy since it’s a really fast pool.”

“Overall, I learned how to cope with the new challenges, and I took every race as an opportunity to get better to get for the U.S. Olympic Trials,” he added.

Michael Andrew is the captain of the New York Breakers swimming team, with Tina Andrew as the team’s General Manager. He is looking forward to the upcoming third season of the International Swimming League (ISL) following the Olympics.
