Marching bands have long toyed with formation designs and playing covers to energize football audiences at halftime shows. But on Saturday in Columbus, the Ohio State Marching Band’s show took this idea to the next superstar level, as captured in this YouTube video.
Selecting an 11-minute Michael Jackson repetoire, the band not only played note-for-note songs such as Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror and Bad, but also stepped into formations resembling the King of Pop himself.
At the 4:00 minute mark, playing Billie Jean, the band forms Jackson’s body and the musicians at the legs begin moving back and forth, as if to resemble the classic moonwalk dance MJ perfected.
At 5:50, catch the band making their MJ dancer do the splits.
One of the clearest videos is filmed by fans in the upper deck of the stadium, while this video gives you a slightly tighter view of the moonwalk. It’s already attracted 48,000 views within a day.
Ohio State Marching Band won major Internet love last year when this video tribute to video games went viral, now at just under 15.5 million views.
