Vertical farming allows farmers to harvest year-round and can adapt LED lighting for better flavours and faster growth. The variables of hydroponics are easier to manage than traditional methods. This includes outdoor pests, seasonal changes in temperature and shifts due to climate change.
This new service allows Dr Blooms to advise farmers about LED lighting. It requires less headroom than conventional HID lighting and runs at lower temperatures, saving electricity and allowing for multiple crop levels.
Two hydroponics suppliers were used by the company, V-Farm & Vertical Future. The latter, which is located in Hertfordshire and supplies fully-fitted vertical farming containers, has been a leader in urban farming. HydroGarden’s ‘Nutrient film Technique’ was used to build V-Farm’, a custom-designed growing room that can be adapted to various spaces.
Dr Blooms launched the consultation service to help farmers fine tune their farming practices in accordance with urban farming’s philosophy and increased sustainability.
