The First Wave: Electric Trucks

(PRUnderground) July 26th, 2021

With the surge in popularity of electrified powertrains and hybrid vehicles, the most beloved vehicle type in America was bound to get the galvanic treatment too. CarBuzz offers an easy guide to identifying the newest electric trucks

Automakers globally have taken up the charge to move towards hybridization/electrification, and the result is a mad dash to develop desirable electric cars. But, since the best-selling vehicle in the United States is the pickup truck, it stands to reason that these would sooner or later be electrified too.

Trucks being hefty vehicles to begin with and the added electronic gadgetry required packing on even more pounds. They are also expected to work really hard, and torque-rich electric motors used in this application tend to sacrifice on range. But with so many strides made with electric SUVs, EV pickups have finally made their way onto the market. This is the first wave:

Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T Launch Edition is scheduled for delivery from June 2021. This truck will have a claimed range of 400 miles. Specs include 750 horsepower and a towing capacity of 11,000 lbs. MSRP: $67.5k

Bollinger B2

The B2 will have 614 hp and 668 lb-ft, and a total range of 200 miles. Highly configurable, the B2 can be equipped with a six, eight, or 8.2-foot bed. Towing capacity is rated at 7,500. MSRP: $125k.

Ford F-150 Lightning

Four trim levels are available, and the first deliveries are only due in mid-2022. The Lightning will have a 300-mile range (or possibly more), a 10,000-lbs towing capacity, and a 2,000-lbs payload ability. MSRP: $39.9k

Lordstown Endurance

The latest car news indicates that there is uncertainty about whether the Lordstown Endurance will actually be produced. 600 hp is what we’re supposed to get in terms of outputs, with towing capacity rated at 7,500 lbs. MSRP: $52.5k

GMC Hummer EV Pickup

The Hummer EV Pickup comes with 1,000 hp, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and AWD. 350 miles of range can be expected from the three-motor model, and a three-second sprint to 60 mph can be achieved. MSRP: $112,595.

Atlis XT

According to the start-up tech company, the Atlis will be available in 300-, 400-, or 500-mile battery pack models, with the most powerful offering 600 hp and 12,000 lb-ft of torque. A fifth-wheel model is reportedly able to haul 35,000 lbs. MSRP: $45k

Tesla Cybertruck

Production is set for 2022, but the Cybetruck is said to pull more than 14,000 lbs. A three-motor model should do 0-60 mph in under three seconds, with up to 600 miles of range. MSRP: $39,9k.
