Pensacola, Fla. – With an estimated 135,000 fans scheduled in attendance, the 105th Indianapolis 500 will be the nation’s largest live sporting event in more than a year. Camping is also coming back as a part of the massive event. Camping options at the Indy 500 include relaxing in a temperature-controlled recreational vehicle (RV) to pitching a tent on the Coke lot. The Indy 500 will be the largest collection of campers since the pandemic started over a year ago.
Camping areas will begin opening on Thursday, May 27 at 7 a.m., allowing guests to remain on site until noon on Monday, May 31. Several amenities will be available to race fans who purchase camping passes. Among the services available are RV pumping, water delivery, and waste disposal from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday. The event will also offer campers opportunities to purchase ice, firewood, electric services, and showers.
A wristband is required during camping hours for access to Lots 1A and 1C. The wristband must be always worn. Camping passes for RVs and travel trailers come with six wristbands, and camping passes for tents get four wristbands.
Even though camping is ramping back up, it is important to remember that the coronavirus is still active. The Indy 500 still recommends following all guidelines, including social distancing and wearing face-coverings.
