Arlington VA Speech Pathologist Language Expert Adult/Pediatric Service Expands

Washington D.C. language and speech therapy clinic District Speech (202-579-4448) has expanded, announcing the opening of a new clinic for adults and children in Arlington, Virginia to reach more people across the DC Area.

Founded in 2015, the clinic has expanded to Arlington to improve access to its speech therapy services. The team at District Speech works with individuals of all ages, providing adult speech therapy as well as pediatric speech and physical therapy. While many speech therapy clinics focus on just adults or just children, District Speech’s practice of treating both is deliberate, as it helps staff to identify the challenges children might face later in life.

District Speech, with its growing team of speech-language pathologists, offers a wide range of solutions to help treat children and adult communication disorders. Specialties include learning and reading impairments, stutter avoidance and reduction, cleft lip and palate therapy, and accent modification and reduction. The decision to expand to Arlington is in line with market trends, which encourage an increasing number of people to seek help.

A number of factors undergird the steady growth of the speech-language pathology – SLP – market in the United States. Advances in healthcare and wider insurance coverage for individuals have resulted in greater demand for both infant and elderly services in particular. SLP employment is expected to rise at a pace of 27 percent each year through 2028, substantially greater than the 5 percent average growth rate for all other occupations in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

District Speech’s expansion is a reflection of this demand, as Arlington, with a growth rate of 12.4% since 2010, is the preferred residential suburb for many families with children. The easier access and greater convenience afforded to many by the new clinic branch will allow for better service to more patients in need. Speech problems can often be completely rectified, or at the very least greatly improved, with speech therapy.

Adult speech therapy at District Speech covers accent modification, fluency and articulation disorders, Aphasia, Dysarthria, and a wide range of cognitive, expressive, resonance, or receptive disorders. Therapy usually involves a combination of muscle exercises, memorization routines, breathing exercises, and language development activities.

In addition to standard speech and language therapy, the clinic also offers physical therapy for Down syndrome, flat head syndrome, and premature babies, as well as transgender voice therapy – https://districtspeech.com/specialties/transgender-voice-therapy/.

Of particular interest to parents is Direct Speech’s early intervention program, a therapy developed for young children at risk for a speech impairment or learning disability. Certain conditions are especially important to identify at an early age, including autism spectrum disorder, hearing loss, apraxia of speech, and others. The goal of early intervention speech therapy is to mitigate the consequences of these issues.
