American Association of School Personnel Administrators to Host National Educator Shortage Summit

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – December 8, 2021 – (Newswire.com)

“The educator shortage is not a new issue in the world of education,” says American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA) Executive Director, Kelly Coash-Johnson. “However, in recent months it has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Education is facing the largest crisis in a generation with regards to staffing schools with not only qualified teachers but all school personnel.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that at least 270,000 educators are expected to leave their profession every year between 2016 and 2026. AASPA is implementing a proactive response to this national issue by hosting the first National Educator Shortage Summit Feb. 7-8, 2022, in Orlando, Florida.

Coash-Johnson states, “Organizations involved in PK-12, higher education, state boards of education and national educational entities are all working tirelessly to address what they can within their control. Now it is time to have these conversations on a national platform. By sharing and strategizing together as a collective force in educating children, we can work to change the world of education for our generation and the ones that follow.”

The National Educator Shortage Summit is an interactive event that convenes focused groups of PK-12 and higher education stakeholders to address the challenges of the national shortage of teachers and the teacher pipeline to share ways to replicate practices via a national strategy. Central to this conversation will be the use of data and collaboration in sharing promising practices. The main hope for this Summit will be to start comprehensive conversations among these groups in the education community and serve as a place where they can pool different perspectives.
