Helping Bags Celebrates Six Years Of Service

Los Angeles – July 27, 2020 – Helping Bags is excited to celebrate its sixth year of helping the homeless communities of San Diego and Los Angeles, California. Founded in the summer of 2014, by Evan Pickens, Helping Bags started with the simple mission of giving directly to those in need. Since then Helping Bags have been handed out to the homeless the last weekend of every month. These bags are filled with essential items needed for basic survival on the streets from toilet paper to food. An estimated 23,000 bags and bottles of Helping Bags water have been distributed, all of no charge to the people receiving them, hoping to lessen the burden of life on the streets.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic access to health services has never been more vital to all people especially those whom are homeless. In March of 2020 the Governor of California Gavin Newsom announced a plan to relocate high risk homeless people into hotels to help slow the ever-growing Coronavirus

2020 hasn’t been easy so far; however, we hope more focus will be placed on the underserved homeless community resulting in more services and funding. The 116th Congress is motivated to talk about affordable housing and homelessness. They hope to analyze updates on homelessness, housing funding, active legislation to address homelessness, and current threats to Congress’ efforts to end homelessness.
