Subway introducing $2 sandwiches in December

The largest sandwich chain in the U.S. is giving customers the option to pay $2 for either its cold-cut or meatball sub, but only in the six-inch size. The prices of the other subs remain the same.

It’s unclear if this December-only promotion will extend to other countries, such as Canada.

The Subway deal is the least expensive price point for its six-inch sandwich that the chain has offered in years, says Tony Pace, marketing chief at Subway’s franchisee advertising fund, according to USA Today. “We’re just showing folks a little love when everyone is fretting about the economic future,” he notes.

Currently, Subway offers $5 deals for different sandwiches, depending on the day.

That’s not the only promotion Subway is offering customers in December. The chain said customers can receive a free regular six-inch sub with a $25 Subway Card purchase or reload through Dec. 29, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

The $2-deal promotion has been launched by other chains, too. KFC regularly runs its toonie Tuesday deals in Canada, and also experimented with a $2 regional promotion in the Los Angeles area, for two pieces of chicken and a buttermilk biscuit.

Taco Bell also rolled out its $2 Meal Deals in 2010, USA Today writes, and continues to market items for around $2.
