‘Oh Frankie’ is the ‘wooden wonder’

This Navy crew member is on the bow of the PT-309, a.k.a. “Oh Frankie”
during World War II. The heroic boat that survived 20 missions under fire,
sank five enemy vessels and captured an Italian torpedo boat and crew, now
faces its ultimate battle.

Texas Parks and Wildlife plans to take the “wooden wonder” out of the water
and into the dry-dock Admiral Nimitz Museum. Restoration experts say the
almost fully restored boat will rot in three to five years on dry land.
