It was confirmed by ABC News Dayton, Ohio affiliate WKEF-22 on Friday that the woman killed in a car crash New Year’s Day was Tasha Thomas, the girlfriend of John Crawford III, the man shot and killed by police at the Beavercreek Walmart.
Thomas, age 26, of Fairborn, was a passenger in a car being driven by 30-year-old Frederick Bailey of Dayton. According to police, the car crashed into a pole on North Broadway Street about 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, and then overturned.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and Bailey died soon after at the hospital. Police say the car was traveling between 90 and 100 mph when it hit the pole and turned over several times. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.
In August of 2014, Thomas was shopping with John Crawford at the Walmart in Beavercreek, a suburb of Dayton. Responding to a 911 call about a man pointing a gun in Walmart, police officers responded, shooting and killing Crawford. He was holding a pellet gun.
Michael Wright, the attorney for the Crawford family said “It’s just tragic,” after hearing about Thomas’s death. “It is a sad set of circumstances continuing from what happened at Walmart.” Wright said Thomas’s death had been confirmed to him by her attorney, Anthony VanNoy.
