Fitness professional, coach, and Internet sensation Justin Mabson chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his motivations and the digital age.

“I have been training on and off my whole life but I’ve been focusing and cracking down on it the last year or two,” he said. “That’s when I started really focusing on meeting my calorie requirements, and starting to compete in everything.”

Each day, he is motivated by looking at the greats. “I look at a lot of people that have made it and I look at how they influence other people. That’s what I want to be able to do: have a large following of people, where I can motivate them and inspire them to be better each day,” he said.

On being a fitness trainer and coach in the digital age, he said, “In our day and age, we are basically given tools to be millionaires such as Instagram, where you can get countless followers, and it is easy to inspire large groups of people with the technology that we have. It is easy to make it a business. It’s ridiculous to ask one person for a million dollars, but it’s not ridiculous to ask one million people for one dollar.”

He acknowledged that life during the quarantine was tough especially when the gyms were shut down. “I was doing a lot of bodyweight focus things,” he said. “I started to get a little out of shape and it was something I didn’t want to see so I just started training real hard after that.”

Regarding his future plans, he said, “I plan on competing in a shredding show this October, and I will be cutting down some weight for that.”

“Within the next three to five years, I plan of meeting my goals, and it might even take less than that. I am pretty driven and I plan on taking a big step this year to focus more on personal training,” he shared.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he responded, “It’s an exciting chapter, that’s for sure. A lot of big things are happening this year. Lots of big steps.”

Mabson defined the word success as “reaching your goals, whatever your goals may be.”
