Bestselling author Paige Taylor chatted about her new book “Secrets Wrought in Blood.”

Particularly impressive about Taylor is that she is 15 years old, and her book made the bestseller list soon after its release.

She was born in a small town in England. Paige moved to Canada with her parents at the age of one. She had always dreamed of becoming an author and has brought her story to life with her debut novel, “Secrets Wrought in Blood,” which is the first installment in her “Blood Blade” trilogy.

She has been a member of the MAA (Muskoka Authors Association) for four years, giving her the opportunity to further her writing skills and meet bestselling authors. In her spare time, Taylor enjoys reading, sketching, and playing volleyball.

Synopsis of her book

The synopsis is: A kingdom. A throne. A crown. Two brothers. For years, the land of Ilya has lived in peace, men, elves and dwarves alike. But things are changing. Since the war, nothing has been the same.

The land lives in segregation, a tension now between the men and elves. Without the command of Luthien, rightful heir and High King of Orathin, each kingdom is left to its own rule. Orathin lies in ruin, abandoned. Or so it was thought.

Nobody truly knows what happened to the High King’s brother, Sindir, during the war.For after the death of his brother, he was not seen again. It was assumed that he, too, perished. Yet the truth cannot be so simple, for we all believe what we wish to believe.

Interview

Your book recently became a bestseller. What was that like for you on a personal and professional level?

On a personal level it was one of my greatest achievements, alongside the actual publication of my novel. It was unbelievable for me to hit that status and especially so soon after the publication of Secrets Wrought in Blood. It has definitely spread the word about my novel and the rate of traffic on my social media has increased, on a professional level.

Do your characters ever resemble people in your life or are they purely imaginative?

They are mostly imaginative, although a few of the traits in Thalia are things I admire and would like in myself.

Your book, Secrets Wrought in Blood (Blood Blade Trilogy Book 1) is full of mystery. What was the toughest scene to write and how did you overcome it?

There wasn’t a specific scene that was harder to write than the others, it was more so a build-up of a few scenes near the end where I had to describe a few settings and important pieces. I found this hard because they were such important aspects of the book that I wanted to make sure I got them right.

If you could spend a day with any author, who would it be and why?

I’m not too sure, but my top three would be Emily Henry, Tricia Levenseller and Tahereh Mafi.

Do you recall your favorite childhood book? What made it so special to you?

My favorite childhood book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, because I loved the artwork and had the toy caterpillar that came with it. Later on I began reading Geronimo Stilton, whose books I loved because they were funny and had educational facts.

When I began to read more complex novels I read I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai, which is still one of my favorite books.
