Known as one of the best-selling games for PCs in the laet 1990s, the StarCraft franchise is an instant money-maker. Its creator Blizzard Entertainment is hoping to capitalize on the 1998 hit with StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, available tomorrow for PC gamers.
Analysts expects sales to reach 4.5 million copies by the end of August, according to MSNBC. By the end of 2010, it’s expected to sell 6.5 million units.
StarCraft 2 is a sci-fi military-style game taking place in a distant region of the Milky Way galaxy. The sequel takes place four years after the original, focusing on a marshal who must lead a team to fight a rebel army.
Blizzard, the company responsible for the StarCraft series, says this game will feature mulitplayer functions the original didn’t include. Also, in StarCraft 2, the campaign is non-linear, with the main hero taking paid jobs and using that money to get additional units and upgrades.
Many stories across the world are holding midnight openings to welcome eager StarCraft fans. No early reviews have been leaked online.
