“Things Heard & Seen” starring Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”) and James Norton is a gripping thriller on Netflix. Digital Journal has the scoop.

It is based on the acclaimed novel by Elizabeth Brundage, and it was written and directed by filmmakers Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini.

“Things Heard & Seen” deals with a New York City couple (played by Seyfried and James Norton) that moves to an iconic hamlet in Hudson Valley. They come to a startling realization that their marriage has sinister darkness, one that rivals their new house’s history.

A young woman Catherine (Seyfried) discovers that both her husband George (Norton) and their new home harbor sinister secrets after they leave Manhattan for small-town life. He has an affair with Willis Howell (Natalie Dyer) and to get even with him Catherine cheats on him with ranch hand Eddie Vayle (Alex Neustaedter)

Alex Neustaedter is superb and charming as Eddie Vayle, and he has great chemistry with Seyfried.

Child actress Ana Sophia Heger is delightful as their precious daughter Franny, and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham delivers a controlled and commanding performance as Floyd DeBeers. The movie itself has a stirring musical score.

The Verdict

Overall, “Things Heard & Said” is a compelling horror film. Amanda Seyfried is a revelation in the lead role as Catherine, and the entire cast is noteworthy and unique. It garners four out of five stars.
