Emmy and Tony winner Sainty Nelsen chatted about the animated children’s show “Gabby’s Dollhouse” on Netflix and her successful career in voiceover.

‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’

She voices “Pillow Cat” in the No. 1 children’s animation show “Gabby’s Dollhouse.” She is looking forward to the new season, which will air on March 20. “It will be amazing, this is Season 7, which is insane. We are usually the No. 1 children’s show on TV on streaming. It is so cool and exciting. I don’t think there is an end date and we will be knocking out season after season after season,” she said.

“It’s from the creators of ‘Blue’s Clues,’ so they are just a power team,” she said. “They get the job done and they are incredible. I love this show so much.”

Other voiceover roles

Her voice can also be heard in lead roles in Netflix’s “Trolls: The Beat Goes On,” “Loud House” on Nickelodeon, “Spidey & Friends” on Disney, as well as “Boss Baby: Back to Business” and “Ridley Jones,” both of which are on Netflix. She is one of few actresses in the world starring in multiple DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon and Netflix originals all at once. ‘I play the grandmother in ‘Loud House’ and all of the kids on that are adults,” she said.

“Voiceover has turned into an amazing life and job,” she said. “It is the world’s tiniest world, and I am so grateful to be able to do that as a living. I would like to start doing on-camera work again.”

“The nice thing about voiceover is that you can be doing multiple shows at once,” she said.

Broadway

Aside from her booming career in voice acting, Sainty was last seen in the FX comedy “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” opposite Denis Leary, and she starred in Broadway’s “Finding Nemo — The Musical” in the lead role of Dory. “I’ve always done musical theatre and my first pilot was an FX pilot, and once I got that, we moved to Los Angeles, and I started doing voiceover there,” she said.

‘The Inheritance’ play

Speaking of Broadway, she served as a producer of the Broadway production of “The Inheritance,” which earned her a Tony Award. “We won the Tony Award at 11 p.m. and then we went into the hospital at 5 a.m. the next day, and we had our second baby,” she said. “That was the craziest 12 hours of my entire life.”

She is also a Drama Desk Award, GLAAD Award, Drama League Award and Outer Critic Circle Award-winning producer.

For her work as a producer on “The Bay,” Sainty proudly holds the title of youngest Emmy-winning female producer in history for her work. All three of her Emmy Awards were before the age of 30. “That was crazy,” she noted.

Personal life

In her personal life, she is the wife of Emmy award-winning actor and producer Eric Nelsen (“1883” and “The Bay”), and she is the mother of two children: Molly Morgan (age three) and Mick (age one). “Our kids think Eric is a cowboy,” she said.

Between Sainty and Eric, the Nelsen household has a total of seven Emmy Awards (three and four respectively). They live in Fort Worth, Texas. “My husband has me beat by one Emmy. Now, I have to win one for voiceover. We are now competing at this point,” she said with a sweet laugh.

“Eric and I just love to work together,” she said. “There is nothing more fun and we are a better team. We’ve been married almost 10 years now, it’s insane.”

Cady McClain

Sainty had tipped her hat to acclaimed soap actress, three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner Cady McClain (“All My Children,” “As The World Turns” and “Days of Our Lives”) for being a huge asset in the professional careers of her and Eric. “I love Cady so much, she is the kindest.”

“It is amazing that soap operas are doing so incredible,” she admitted. “Cady took Eric and myself under her wing, she is a rockstar. She made all us young actors feel protected, safe, and she taught us the ropes. We really learned from the best, she is a godsend and I am so grateful for her,” Sainty said.
