Rising country singer Alex Hall served as his opening act, who warmed up the stage for Rhett.
He began his set with the smooth yet sensual tune “South Side” and it was followed by his Top 15 breakthrough single “Something To Do With My Hands,” where he was jumping around the stage, displaying his high energy, as yellow laser lights graced the stage.
Rhett accompanied himself on acoustic guitar on the drinking tune “Whatcha Got In That Cup.” “It’s freaking cold out,” he told his New York fans. “I’ll tell you that much. Don’t know how you guys live here on Long Island with all that snow.”
He continued with his latest single “Make Me Wanna,” which sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts this week, and he thanked the fans for helping him achieve this milestone. “It’s all because of you guys,” he said, and he incorporated the tune as a fun sing-along. It garnered a roaring applause to the point where Rhett was overwhelmed. “Are we in New York or Mars?” he asked, complimenting The Paramount for having “the best crowd of our lives.”
Rhett’s version of Lee Brice’s “Parking Lot Party” was well-received by the crowd. “We’re going to warm up your pipes,” he said.
He covered “Free Fallin'” and Shaggy’s “Angel” and immediately broke into “It Goes Like This,” which was his first chart-topping single. He had the fans waving their hands up in the air, and continued with “Front Porch Junkies” and the apologetic “Sorry for Partyin’.”
“Thank you so much to The Paramount for having me tonight. It’s really cool for us southern boys to be playing at a classic place,” he said.
It was followed by an acoustic and solo performance of the moving ballad “Beer With Jesus” and he covered Florida Georgia Line’s “Round Here.”
“That’s how we do it in New York baby,” he said, and subsequently paid homage to Eric Church by singing “Homeboy.”
“Get Me Some Of That” was perhaps the highlight performance of the evening.
The Verdict
Overall, Thomas Rhett was able to rock out The Paramount in Huntington. He seems to get better each time he takes the stage. He had the crowd with him every step of the way. Rhett’s show garnered two thumbs up.
