On April 16, Emmy award-winning actresses Laura Wright, Maura West and Cynthia Watros, as well as Emmy nominee Eden McCoy of “General Hospital” threw an 80’s Dance Party on Long Island. It took place at Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown, and it was met with a good turnout.
To quote the classic Cher tune, they were able to “turn back time” and take the “General Hospital” fans back to a simpler era. Speaking of the hit ABC soap opera, it just celebrated its 60th anniversary.
It was definitely an afternoon of female empowerment as the daytime stars danced along with the fans to such iconic tunes as Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Mad About You,” The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed,” Madonna’s “Vogue,” The Weather Girls’ “It’s Raining Men,” ABBA’s “Dancing Queen,” Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and the upbeat “Bad Reputation,” The B-52’s “Love Shack,” and the theme of the day was Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” who is bound to be a future Rock and Roll Fall of Fame inductee next month.
Simply put… the music of the queens of rock from the 80’s was able to meet the queens of daytime television, coupled with fan interaction and engagement, and it blended together in a neat and refreshing manner, where it was enjoyable for all.
During the Question and Answer (Q & A) session with the fans, Laura Wright, who stars as Carly Corinthos on the show, described Eden McCoy, who plays her onscreen daughter Josslyn, as one of her “favorite human beings.” Wright shared that they just traveled together to such places as Albany, New York, and Boston, where they met their fans on the East Coast.
Wright subsequently noted that Maura West is one of her favorites to do fan events with because she is “very funny” and she tells her “funny stories all the time.” “Maura is my bestie at work,” she said. “We are besties, I love her so much,” Wright added.
Even thought their characters Carly and Nina (Cynthia Watros) are not friends on the show, Wright noted that “there is no way in the world that you can hate Cynthia Watros,” and rightfully so.
“We had the best time dancing with you guys,” all four actresses concurred.
“The 80’s Dance Party with the ladies of ‘General Hospital’ was fabulous,” exclaimed Grace Falco, fan and attendee. “It was the most fun I’ve had at a ‘General Hospital’ fan event. I can’t wait for Eden, Cynthia, Laura and Maura to come back so we can do it again. I think next time we take the time machine even further back to the 70’s.”
The Verdict
Overall, actresses Laura Wright, Maura West, Eden McCoy, and Cynthia Watros, were all able to put their fans into a time warp and take them to the 80’s. The music and the dancing was memorable, and so were the stories they told about being a part of the longest-running daytime drama “General Hospital.”
