“How ya’ll doing? We’re Stolen Rhodes,” lead singer Matt Pillion said, introducing themselves. They began their set with “Peacemaker,” as red lights dimmed from the stage. “Thank you,” they said, following its warm reception.
They picked up the pace with the upbeat “Down in Flames,” where yellow lights graced the stage. “C’mon, clap along with us,” they said. “We going to take you out to Las Vegas,” they added, and immediately broke into “Life Was Never Finer,” which had a bluesy vibe to it.
It was followed by the drum-driven “Good Times Bad Times,” where they tipped their hats to Led Zeppelin. They shared that they are happy to be back at The Paramount, after opening for Marshall Tucker Band at this venue this past March, and they have a brand new record out, and Pillion went on to perform his favorite song from that album, which happens to be their first single, “Save Me.” This vocal resonated well with their fans, especially since Pillion began it solo, accompanying himself on electric guitar, while the rest of the group joined in midway through the tune.
Stolen Rhodes closed their set with the uptempo and rocking “So Long,” where Pillion played guitar and towards the end, he switched over to saxophone, showcasing his versatility as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Following a neat jam of “So Long,” he went on to introduce his band-mates: Dan Haase on bass, Kevin Cunningham on guitar and Christopher James on drums.
The Verdict
Overall, Stolen Rhodes was able to deliver at The Paramount. They were able to warm up the stage for “Uncle” Ted Nugent. Their live set garnered four out of five stars.
