Greenwood, who wore a cap in honor of the Coast Guard, performed in front of fans and military guests during NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600. “Hello race fans,” Greenwood said, greeting the audience, and he held up the peace sign.
His voice was compelling and powerful as ever, and it garnered an enormous round of applause from the first chorus. Midway through the song, he encouraged everybody to sing along. “Let me see your hands,” Greenwood added.
Towards the end of the song, he stressed the following lyrics: “And I’ll gladly stand up.” He also saluted the U.S. military members that were present in the crowd. “Thank you race fans,” Greenwood concluded.
Particularly impressive about Greenwood’s live performance at Charlotte Motor Speedway is that it included ground exhibitions, as well as a 20-minute performance by the 82nd Airborne division. It was well-received by all, and proved that Lee Greenwood and his classic song “God Bless The USA” are both timeless.
