Regarding his new film 40 Below and Falling, he said, “It is a film that we shot in Edmonton this past January. It’s a story where a woman gets showed in, while trying to make it to her wedding. The plane can’t land, so she decides she is going to follow a woodsman, who is making the journey on a snowmobile. Along the way they encounter a number of challenges, and eventually they fall in love, and hence the title ’40 Below and Falling.’ It was a challenge because we filmed it in 3-D, so that was kind of cool, and I am interested to see how that turns out. It is supposed to be on television this fall.”
His greatest influences in acting include such veterans as Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Watching all of these guys as a kid had the biggest impact,” he said.
On being a part of the Resident Evil series, he said, “It was an absolute dream come true for me. I grew up playing the games and watching the movies. Finally, I got the opportunity to be a part of it, and live out a fantasy of being a super-villain. It was a lot of fun in the scale of it. Half of the time, I could not believe that I was even a part of it. It was a great experience, and a cool series.”
Each day, he is motivated simply by experience. “Possessing a bunch of things is not what I am interested in. Having some great stories when I am 80 years old is what I live for. This job gives me the versatility to be able to get that,” he said. “I am willing to see what comes, and make the most of it. I don’t even plan as far as tomorrow, since things can change. You are waiting for a phone call and an opportunity that comes out of the blue. I just enjoy what I’ve got and I take things in stride.”
Roberts listed Oscar-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver, Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock as his dream female acting partners. “I would love to be in a film with Sigourney Weaver,” he said.
When asked on how he stays in such top-notch physical shape, he revealed that it has a lot to do with going to the gym and eating right. “I am a big outdoors-man, so I like to camp and build a fire and hang out. I go to the gym, so that is my thing. I like doing things in the middle of nowhere, such as shooting guns and hanging out,” he said.
