Pokemon Go players urged to stay away from Fukushima

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Tepco, has asked Niantic and the Pokemon company to prevent Pokemon creatures from appearing in areas near the Fukushima nuclear reactor meltdown. Tepco hopes this would prevent Pokemon Go players from venturing into dangerous areas.

Tepco tested the Daiichi plant, the Daini plant and the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant and it found Pokemon on-site. As a result, the country’s nuclear regulator sent out a warning to energy providers telling them to tighten up security.

Masao Uchibori, Fukushima’s governor, said the government would consider how it could draw attention to the fact that people may find themselves in dangerous areas all because they want to find Pokemon.

Niantic said it will make changes to Pokemon Go if any of the location put players in danger. If someone believes there’s a location that puts players at risk, then they can put in a request to remove that location.

Before the game was launched in Japan, which was only recently, officials issued a warning and told citizens to play the game safely. However, there has still been a number of accidents, including car accidents involving people driving while playing the game.
