The video is quite the visual feat — Rolling Stone reports that the video’s elaborate set took three weeks to assemble and 50 takes to get right.
Don’t believe anything you see glimpse, as it’ll only take a few seconds for one of the band members to trick you. Prepare yourself for stairs that aren’t there, projections that aren’t projections, band members blending in with the wall and much more.
As for the music, the song is apparently written from the point of view of a lover whose relationship is clearly doomed. The combination of guitar and some 80s-sounding synthesizers give the song an airy feel that transcends the inherent sadness of the lyrics.
“The Writing’s on the Wall” is the first single from the Los Angeles-based band’s upcoming album Hungry Ghosts, to be released this October.
