A six-foot monument will honor the memory of “Twilight Zone” creator Rod Serling at Binghamton’s Recreation Park. Digital Journal has the scoop.
Serling was a distinguished screenwriter, playwright, television producer, narrator, and on-screen host. He is best known for his live television dramas of the ’50s and his popular anthology TV series “Twilight Zone.”
Rod Serling loved his hometown of Binghamton, New York. After becoming a successful screenwriter and moving to California, he would return to Binghamton every summer, driving through his hometown to reminisce, to see his boyhood home, and to visit Recreation Park where he often played just a few blocks away.
He had feelings of nostalgia for his hometown – and his memories of the carousel that still stands in this park, which served as the inspiration for the classic Twilight Zone episode, “Walking Distance.”
The Rod Serling Memorial Foundation wishes to recognize Rod Serling’s love for his hometown, and immortalize his impact as a writer, teacher, orator, and humanitarian, by creating and installing a six-foot statue in his beloved Recreation Park.
This monument to Rod Serling would serve as a permanent reminder that one of the twentieth century’s greatest writers called Binghamton home.
Nick Parisi serves as the president of the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation, an organization based in Serling’s hometown of Binghamton, New York. Since 1985, the Foundation has worked to preserve Serling’s legacy and to promote Serling’s vast contributions to the creative arts.
