Rising actress Zuleyka Silver chatted about playing Audra Charles on the No. 1 daytime drama “The Young and The Restless” on CBS.
‘The Young and The Restless’
“It has been a whirlwind,” she said. “I can’t believe it has been four months already, I started on August 12th and it just flew by. It has been an amazing experience, it’s a legendary show and I think that I am getting the hang of it. I really enjoy playing Audra, she’s so dynamic, smart, and so strong. She’s a little manipulative, and has all of these different sides to her.”
When asked how she handles being dialogue-heavy, she responded, “I am not there every day so that gives me time to go over it at home. I also use the app coldRead, which is amazing. It really helps me practice and learn lines on my own. It has been manageable.”
Silver had kind words about working with actors Rory Gibson and Sean Dominic. “Rory is great and so sweet,” she said. “I had my screen test with Rory and Sean Dominic, and they became my go-to people initially. They are both fun to be around and very professional.”
Daily motivations
Regarding her daily motivations as an actress, Silver said, “I love acting so much so it is hard for me not to have that motivation, that’s literally all I ever wanted to do in my life and I am grateful to be doing it now. Also, I look forward to being able to show different parts of myself through acting. That’s what makes it all really worthwhile for me.”
“I also really enjoy reading and that inspires me and motivates me. I find inspiration in my everyday life,” she added.
The digital age
On being an actress in the digital age, Silver said, “It has its pros and its cons, there are more opportunities across the board as an actor. Also, there is so much content that there is no way that people can watch everything that is out there. I am all for it, and I think it’s great that we have so many platforms.”
“There are so many great shows out there and there is a show for everyone, no matter what you are into. I am grateful that there are more opportunities,” she said.
On the title of the current chapter of her life, Silver responded, “Just Living.” “I feel like I am really living life,” she admitted. “I feel like I am really living up to my potential.”
Silver listed Frances McDormand and Christina Ricci as her dream acting partners. “I really look up to them and I love the range and the truth that they bring to their characters,” she said.
In “The Young and The Restless,” she noted that she would love to someday work with Eric Braeden, who plays the iconic Victor Newman. “Hopefully, that will happen at some point in the future, I think that would be really exciting,” she said.
Her favorite motto to live by is the following: “the way you do anything is the way you do everything.” “I try to commit 100 percent to everything that I do, and I try to apply that motto across the board,” she said.
On her definition of the word success, Silver said, “Definitely getting to a place where you do not care what people think of you and you are not concerned about how you are perceived. Success is when you are comfortable in your own skin and you are living authentically. Also, living off of what you want to do, and in my case, I get to film and be an actress.”
For her dedicated soap fans, Silver said, “I am grateful that the fans are embracing Audra, especially since she was not the most likable person initially. Today, when I get to the studio, I received an envelope full of fanmail and I was reading their letters and they were so sweet.”
