The duo of musicians hails from Long Island. “We have known each other for a few years now,” said Megan. “We both were writing and we clicked really well and we did gigs together, and we decided to collaborate. When I was working on my solo project, I wanted Matt involved, and from then, we started songwriting together.”
Megan noted that their duo name originated from her identical twin sister. “I texted her with a few of the ideas that we had, and we said that it should just be ‘Anywhere But Here.’ I thought it was a nice sentiment,” she said.
Their EP was funded via a Pledge Music campaign, where part of their proceeds went to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in honor of a friend that passed.
All of their songs on the EP were co-written by both Sinisi and Rose; moreover, Sinisi played guitars and keyboards, as well as co-produced the project with Greg Gavitt. “Matt did all of the musical direction and production,” she said. “It was fun doing that for the first time. It was definitely a good learning experience, and something I am really proud of. Hopefully, we will keep going for the next one,” Sinisi added.
Rose’s greatest musical influences include female singer-songwriters Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, while Sinisi was inspired musically by The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Stevie Wonder. Rose listed soulful singer Ray LaMontage as her dream male duet choice, while Sinisi selected the late but great Whitney Houston.
Her songwriting is based on her personal experiences, as well as other people’s experiences. “I find a lot of inspiration in my family,” she said with a sweet laugh.
Sinisi noted that their plans for the future are to continue writing and recording music. “We are getting a band together, so we are going to start rehearsing. We are trying to break into the original scene a bit. We are trying to get more of our presence out there,” he said.
