Actor and model Joseph Cannata chatted about his new holiday film “A Brush with Christmas” and the digital age.

American track and field legend Jesse Owens once said: “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” Joseph Cannata is an individual, actor, and model, that embodies this wise quote by the late four-time Olympic gold medalist.

“A Brush with Christmas” will premiere on Sunday, December 18 on Great American Family, and Cannata stars opposite Jillian Murray. “This movie came at such a surprising time for me,” he admitted. “I kind of manifested this movie and it came to be, it was so much fun.”

“Working with Jillian was amazing, I was so nervous because she had so much more experience than me but she was so great,” he said.

“Jillian is very giving, she was such a pro and she was so good to watch, act, and be in scenes with. It was an honor to work with her,” he added.

The synopsis is as follows: Over the week leading up to Christmas in the town of Bayside, Charlotte (Jillian Murray) tries to capture her own unique style in the local art scene while also helping her mother, run the family restaurant.

Disheartened and struggling to find time for her art, Charlotte throws out her latest painting, only to discover that it has been anonymously submitted to the Christmas art festival. It turns out that Wyatt (Joseph Cannata), a visiting artist, stumbled upon her discarded work and is now using the festival’s exposure to find its mysterious creator.

This is the 18th and final new original holiday movie that Great American Family is releasing on its network this month. “I am hoping they are saving the best for last,” he said with a sweet laugh.

“I hope that the viewers enjoy it for what it is. It’s very relatable. This is a feel-good movie that we want you to escape any reality you are living in and feel good at the end of it,” he said about “A Brush with Christmas.” “I would love to make Christmas movies for the rest of my life. I just want to act, and that would make me happy.”

Cannata had kind words about fellow Canadian actor and model Nick Bateman. “Nick is a really close friend of mine, he is a great dude. I can’t say enough good things about him,” Cannata said.

The digital age

On being an actor and model in the digital age, now with streaming and technology being so prevalent, Cannata said, “So much has changed. I am relatively new to it, I have only been acting for the last six years. I came into it when it was transitioning into streaming. I appreciate all of the opportunities that have come my way. There are way more opportunities than ever before.”

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, Cannata revealed, “Perseverance.” “Right now, it’s all about perseverance and going to the next level,” he said.

On his definition of the word success, he shared, “Success is a state of mind, it’s definitely how you feel. Success is not monetary.”
