Dream Hampton reported Sunday in a series of soon-after deleted tweets that Jay Z and Beyonce wired tens of thousands of dollars, “in minutes,” to assist individuals arrested during the recent, racially-charged protests.
“When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protestors, I (sic) hit Jay up, as I had for Ferguson, wired tens of thousands in minutes,” read one tweet from the social justice activist, and noted Jay Z ghostwriter.
Combined, Jay-Z and Beyonce reportedly have a net worth of over a $1 billion.
The couple has faced criticism from the past from other African-American social justice advocates, including Harry Belafonte, for not leveraging enough of their own resources and influence to speak out against alleged police brutality against blacks in urban cities, especially Ferguson and Baltimore.
Though the tweets were deleted just minutes later, Dream Hampton continued her defense of Jay Z and Beyonce later in the day when she was quoted saying, “”I can say I’ve personally helped facilitate donations they’ve given to protesters directly and that they never ask for anything in return, especially publicity.'”
