Veteran actress Jackie Zeman chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about her 2021 Daytime Emmy nomination for “The Bay.”

On earning this Emmy nomination, she said, “This Emmy nomination has warmed my heart. I feel so much gratitude to be given the honor of sharing the nominations in this category with Carolyn Hennesy, Alicia Leigh Willis, Jodi Long, and Tiffani Thiessen. These women work hard, and they make it look easy. They have passion and they deliver their best always. We have a connection as sisters because that is a work ethic that we all share. I think they feel as I do, much appreciation to be recognized and singled out with a nomination.”

“I really appreciate being given the storyline that my character, Sofia Madison, was gifted to play this past season. What a joy and inspiration it was to play with John Aprea and Brittany Underwood. I even had a scene with Tristan Rogers this season, that was a treat. Tristan and I have worked on shows for decades but we have never been given a storyline together,” she elaborated.

“The COVID storyline that we were given to play this past season was a reflection of real life, and it was an important story to tell and I am really glad to have been a part of that,” she added.

“I have been a working actress for 46 years,” Zeman said. “I am grateful that I have been able to earn a living doing what I love to do. Now, that I am a mature woman, a vet, as they refer to actors of a certain age, I want to thank Gregori J. Martin and Wendy Riche for not phasing me out of the storyline as so many shows do to their veteran actresses.”

“Life is filled with a magnitude of surprises, big and small, and it goes by so quickly. One of my golden rules is to treasure the good times,” she added.

“Although the creative process is always a collaboration, as an actress, it is my job to just say the lines and be the character that the writers create the story for. In real life, we all have the power to write our own stories, and I find that there is great satisfaction, excitement, and peace to Sofia, and I hope that story will continue for as long as I live,” she concluded.
