Interview: Taylor Atkinson discusses new EP ‘Come Home’ (Includes interview)

Regarding his new EP, he said, “I took a break from doing the full-band for the time being, and I wanted to get back to the roots of the music that I was raised on, such as James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, and The Beatles, and incorporate that into my music. My biggest influence is Ryan Adams. We have five songs on the new EP.”

The tracks on the EP include “Beautiful Disaster,” “Runaway,” “Momma Loved Daddy,” “Sister” and the title track. “Whenever I was going through a rough time, ‘Momma Loved Daddy,’ shows how strong my family is, and how I could lean on them. The song ‘Sister’ was inspired after I left for the National Guard, and I ended up missing the wedding of one of my sisters, and the delivers of the second child of my second sister. I have gotten really good responses for ‘Sister.’ ‘Runaway’ deals with how such terrible things happen to such good people. ‘Beautiful Disaster’ was a song I wrote back in 2006, and I was playing it just for fun,” he said.

Atkinson admitted that his new EP contains a plethora of sad songs. “If you listen to this EP, it is kind of depressing. Song after song, there is nothing happy whatsoever,” he said. “I am pretty excited. I am playing a show tonight, and then I will be playing at a festival, and I have a few other things in the works.”

His EP is available on Spotify, and it is going to be on iTunes later in the week.
