Singer-songwriter David Archuleta chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his new single “Movin’,” his first-ever children’s book “My Little Prayer,” as well as his sexuality and definition of success.

‘Movin’

On his new song “Movin’,” he said, “I wanted to have some fun this year with my songs because I was a little more introspective and deep with my previous album ‘Therapy Sessions.’ I wanted to do something more fun and I wanted to get moving. I wrote it with Michael Campbell and Nate Dodge, the latter of which was one of the producers that I’ve worked with a lot this year. “

‘My Little Prayer’

He opened up about his new children’s book, “My Little Prayer,” which will be released in mid-October. “The title comes from the lyrics of one of my songs ‘My Little Prayer’ that I had in a dream a few years ago,” he said. “I was talking to God, and letting him know how I was feeling. While I was talking to him, He told me to get up and to write things down. He told me that if I didn’t get up and write it at that moment, I would forget it in the morning.”

“I didn’t change anything because I felt that it was given to me,” he said. “My goal with this book is to teach people how to pray because a lot of people don’t know how to. I want to let them know that this can be a personal experience for them, where they can let God know how they are feeling.”

Tour schedule

On his upcoming show dates, he said, “My tour dates have been pushed back for two years now. I am hoping that it will finally work this time. The tour will start at the beginning of 2022.”

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, he responded, “Opening up and being willing to learn.” “Taking chances for the sake of learning and understanding better. That is where I am at now,” he explained.

“I can’t wait to see the fans,” he said. “I feel I have a lot to share with the music and the messages in the songs and being able to have a good time with the fans. I am so grateful to all of them. I hope they are having a good time with me, this year is about having a good time, and finding joy in the journey.”

Sexuality

He also spoke about his sexuality, which he addressed in an emotional message to his fans back in June. “It is always uncomfortable to open up when I am used to being closed off, but at the same time, I felt it was important, and God inspired me to open up about what I was going through lately,” he said. “I was scared to open up about it since God was so important to me, and everything to me.”

“The response from everybody was heartwarming. I thought I was going to get slack from people,” he said. “Generally, the majority of people were very compassionate and very understanding and very supportive. This was bigger than my own life and what I wanted to do. There was more to his plan than I understand.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, he said, “Success is just growing as a person and in my career. I feel I am in a successful place since I am growing even in small ways by sharing who I am. I feel very fortunate and we have been working very hard. I still feel very blessed, and I enjoy bringing joy to people.”
