A Kentucky native, Woods grew up loving the music of her mountain roots. “I grew up on the mountains and doing typical country things. We would go to the lake on weekends and drive four wheelers. I lived in a town with 750 people. We had to drive 30 minutes to a Wal-Mart. It was laid-back and a good life,” she said.
Her new single “When You Love A Wild Thing” was co-written by songwriters Megan Redmond, Danielle Lauderdale and Erica Hoyt. “I was at my manager’s house and we were going over songs because we needed more material to work with, and he played me this song that was intended for Miranda Lambert. My producer Trey Bruce had an impressive record in producing in Nashville. We recorded the song and put it on iTunes and we went with it. It has been a real blessing,” she said.
Her musical influences include Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood, as well as traditional country songstresses Dolly Parton, Patty Loveless and Loretta Lynn. “I watched American Idol for a while, and Carrie Underwood came about and everybody fell in love with her because she was America’s sweetheart,” Woods said.
Woods has won many country music talent contests such as 2010 GCGMA’s “Most Promising Vocalist” and “Entertainer of the Year,” as well as NACMAI’s “Most Promising Star of Tomorrow.” “Those were nice surprises,” she said. “We are promoting the new single, and we are booking shows all summer and we are starting in April. We are going as far as we can with it.”
She listed Eric Church as her dream male duet choice. “Eric hasn’t sold out yet and he stayed true to himself,” she said. “I am not a huge fan of bro-country or pop-country.”
