Canadian actor Brendan Penny (“Chesapeake Shores”) chatted about his new film “The Wedding Cottage.” It will premiere on Saturday, April 15, on the Hallmark Channel.

Terry Ingram directed this movie from a script by Laurie B. Turner, Judith Berg, and Sandra Berg.

‘The Wedding Cottage’

Penny stars in ‘The Wedding Cottage’ opposite Erin Krakow (“When Calls The Heart”). In this movie, a wedding guide creator must convince an uninspired artist and owner of a special wedding cottage to renovate the run down cottage to host a contest winning couple for their dream wedding.

“My experience on this film was fantastic,” he exclaimed. “Working with Erin and seeing Terry was a perfect combination of fun and talent. Every day was filled with laughs and the work just flowed.”

Playing Evan in the movie

He portrays Evan Sutherland in “The Wedding Cottage,” an artist who inherited the cottage from his grandmother. Evan has been using it as his temporary residence while he waits for inspiration for his next masterpiece. “What I like most about playing Evan was that I found his character challenging but parts of him were very familiar, so it was fun going back and forth between the two,” he explained.

“I like that Evan had an edge to him, which gave me an opportunity to show something different than other characters I’ve played,” he said.

Hallmark’s ‘Chesapeake Shores’ series

He opened up about being a vital part of the hit Hallmark series “Chesapeake Shores.” “It was a fantastic experience,” he recalled. “I was so fortunate to get that role and be part of the show for six seasons. I formed great relationships and got to grow through Kevin O’Brien.”

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, at a time when streaming and technology are so prevalent, Penny remarked, “I think it’s great. I like that people can really get so much great content at their fingertips. It’s also great how widespread shows can now be viewed.”

Dream acting choices

When asked about his dream acting choices, he shared that it would be great to work with any performer that is “dedicated and talented.” “That is all that maters,” he admitted about the main criteria he looks for.

Closing thoughts on ‘The Wedding Cottage’

For fans and viewers, Penny concluded about “The Wedding Cottage,” I want them to just love the movie as much as I loved making it. It is fun, sweet, and so well done. I’m sure they will enjoy it.”
