Rising Warner recording artist Benson Boone chatted about his latest single “Better Alone” and his new EP “Walk Me Home,” which will be released on Friday, July 29.

On the song selection process for his new EP, Boone said, “It came pretty naturally. I’ve been working on this EP for a year now. I have been writing and writing and I wasn’t sure what these songs were going to be used for. Once the idea for the EP came together, I just put forward the songs that I liked the most.”

“These are the songs that reflect my emotions the best for everyone else to hear,” he added.

Boone already has a gold single with his debut song “Ghost Town,” and almost half a billion streams from his first three songs, including “In The Stars.” “‘Ghost Town’ was my first song and it blew up on TikTok,” he said.

He acknowledged that “In The Stars” is “awesome.” “It makes you want to bawl your eyes out. It’s definitely the most personal song I’ve ever written, and that one will always be very special to me.”

His latest single “Better Alone” was just released on July 22. The song’s music video was directed by Sophie Muller. “I really like that song,” he admitted. “I wrote a song about feeling better alone. I told my mom that I never thought I would ever fall in love, ever, and that’s what I believed so I wrote a song about that feeling. Sometimes, you are all you need to get by.”

He listed “Nights Like These” as his personal favorite tune on the EP. “I think it’s the best summer song out of all of these. It’s definitely the most upbeat,” he explained. “The fans can roll down their windows late at night and they can just vibe this song.”

Benson did not even know he could sing until a couple of years ago. Since that high school talent show, he went on American Idol and was predicted to win by Katy Perry but left the show to become the authentic artist he wanted to be.

“This year is my first year in the music industry and my first year pursuing this career,” he said. “I’ve been trying to find who I am, and for the sake of this EP, ‘home’ is where I want to be. These songs are my journey to finding who I want to be, and that’s why I called it ‘Walk Me Home.’ All of these songs are a progression of my emotions over the past year.”

He signed with Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons and Warner Records and really honed in on his writing skills which are on full display with his “Walk Me Home” EP.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “It’s crazy. Having a career that seems like it is all online with TikTok views and streams. It’s weird because I didn’t really grow up being interested in music but I would listen to music when I was a kid. Now, if you can promote your music online, it can blow up.”

He listed Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo as his dream female duet choices in music.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Boone said, “Taco Bell” or “Lost.” “This career was definitely something I was not expecting to do,” he said. “I didn’t even discover my musical abilities until less than three years ago. It’s amazing but it is also very overwhelming at times. I am still trying to figure out who I want to be hence the ‘Walk Me Home’ title. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, though.”

“Right now, in my life, I am young, I just turned 20, but I do want to know what the future holds for me,” he added.

For young and aspiring artists, he said, “Staying true to yourself is the most important thing you can do.” “Just being yourself is the best thing you can do,” he underscored.

If he were to have any superpower, he revealed that it would be “flying.” “I think about that every single day,” he admitted. “I wish I could fly more than anything on this planet. That is all I want, and I would literally be content forever.”

In track and field, he listed “pole vault” as his personal favorite event that he would love to do or compete in. “I did pole vault in high school and it was my favorite thing ever,” he said.

His favorite strokes in swimming are the “backstroke” and the “breaststroke.” “These are the two relaxing strokes, but if I were racing, I would just do freestyle,” he said.

Boone defined the word success as “getting to a point where he is so happy with what he is done, where he is at, and who he is with.” “I just want to be happy, and that to me, is more important than any amount of money,” he said.

“Walk Me Home” is available for pre-order on digital service providers by clicking here. “I hope when people listen to ‘Walk Me Home,’ they can relate to something,” he said. “My music is personal to me and that’s how I write it. I also write it for other people to relate to as well.”
