Alex Syntek’s free concert in Vancouver (Includes interview and first-hand account)

Vancouver’s Convention Centre was a stage for a free performance Alex Syntek gave to big Mexican community in Vancouver.

Alex Syntek is a stage name of Raúl Alejandro Escajadillo Peña who started his music adventure at the age of 11. Syntek is a combination of two Spanish words, sin teclado, without keyboards. Alex is very popular performer in Mexico and outside of it.

The stage for the show was the place of the Olympic Cauldron from the 21st Winter Olympic Games to which there’s now free access to everybody.

The concert was a part of the celebrations of 200 years of Mexican independence and 100th anniversary of revolution.

Until 2006, there were 0.37 percent people of Mexican origin in Vancouver who had status of permanent residents. After easing off the visa requirements early in 2005, Vancouver have experienced quite a substantial influx of Mexican people who came to work in construction industry, especially for future objects of 21st Winter Olympic Games. Many of them came illegally as gastarbeiters and have stayed since.
