Intel Corporation’s head of mobile group plans to leave company

Bloomberg reports that Evans already handed her notice to Intel Corp., although the company’s spokeswoman, Laura Anderson, refused to provide an official statement. Evans joined Intel almost 10 years ago and spent her last year in the company trying to help the semiconductor maker become competitive in the mobile field. In a previous interview, Aicha explained that in order to achieve “the capability going into all platforms […] you have to have mobile platforms.” However, the multinational corporation still ended up with just a mere 1 percent share in phone processors at the end of 2015, after investing billions of dollars. Before working for Intel, Evans worked for 10 years as an engineering manager at Skyworks Solutions Inc., Rockwell Semiconductors, and Conexant, being one of the most senior female executives in this field.

To account for her recent departure, speculation says one of the possible causes could be that the unit he worked with may become a parts supplier for Apple’s iPhone. However, another possible reason was the unexpected delay in the 28nm SoFIA 4G application processor (AP) launch. The mobile processor was already re-scheduled from June 2015 to early 2016, although other sources claim it has been pushed again to mid-2017.

It may be safely postulated that at some point the mobile integrated software will entirely substitute the traditional one. Even the largest juggernauts of the information industry have been forced into devolving substantial investment in mobile technologies and apps to keep their position, including Intel. Although the company still struggles to climb aboard the newly sailed ship of the mobile platforms, a recent Intel Corp. stock market analysis suggests that the chip maker corporation is still one of the strongest in its market. How Evans bailing out is going to affect them in the long run, however, has yet to be determined.
