Review: Darlene Love sensational on new ‘Introducing Darlene Love’ album (Includes first-hand account)

Love’s album opens with the instrumentally-stunning “Among The Believers,” as well as its soaring lead singleForbidden Nights,” where her vocals are as sharp as ever.

“Love Kept Us Foolin’ Around” is upbeat and sassy, while “Little Liar” is yet another fun vocal. “Still Too Soon To Know” is a moving duet with veteran music star Bill Medley. The poignant, piano-driven “Who Under Heaven” is one of the highlight vocals on the album, and she picks up the pace with the mid-tempo “Night Closing In.”

“Painkiller” has a retro soul vibe to it and “Just Another Lonely Mile” is a refreshing and catchy tune, that should be a single at some point in the future. She displays her rich pipes on “Last Time” and she emerges as a modern-day Tina Turner on “River Deep, Mountain High.”

“Sweet Freedom” features neat background vocals and “Marvelous” is another ballad on the record. It closes on a spiritual note with “Jesus Is the Rock (That Keeps Me Rollin’).”

The Verdict

Overall, Darlene Love delivers on her new studio album Introducing Darlene Love. It is packed with a lot of hit songs. Her CD garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
