The Inca Trail, a complex road network crossing six South American countries was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The award recognizes the historic and cultural significance of the ancient route used by the Incas and later by the conquistadors.

The first batch of archaeological pieces taken from the iconic pre-Columbian site known as Machu Picchu, and held “on loan” at Yale University, will return to Peru later this month after a century-long controversy about ownership.
