Hubble captures bubble-blowing galaxy

New NASA/ESA Hubble space telescope images of Holmberg II, a dwarf irregular galaxy, have revealed its blurry boundaries have been pocked by giant bubbles of glowing gas, where star-birth blew away dust and gas, and supernova shocks cleared out cavities.

Galaxy UDFy-38135539: Universe's most senior citizen discovered

Paris - The Hubble Space Telescope has discovered the oldest object in the universe: Galaxy UDFy-38135539, which is approximately 600 million years old. However, scientists are already discussing the likelihood of discovering an object older than that.

Hubble takes first pics of Pluto’s surface

Pluto is cute. It’s an elegant little gold and black ball, and even if it’s no longer called a planet, I’d like to adopt it. Hubble took four years to put these pictures together, and they’re fuzzy but intriguing.

Miniature galaxies- Hubble goes back 13.1 billion years

Fixing the Hubble space telescope has allowed it to get on with its job, and the infrared images coming back are of truly primitive, tiny, galaxies. They’re 5 per cent the size of the Milky Way. The new information is opening up a lot of new questions.

First Images from Rejuvenated Hubble Released

The Hubble is one of the most complex space telescopes ever launched. It has recently undergone major surgery but astronomers have declared it completely rejuvenated and have now released the first new images from the 19 year old observatory.

Op-Ed: NASA Blues- Hubble fixed, JWST ready, culture comatose

The last Hubble servicing mission is high risk. Hazards include the inevitable space garbage, micro meteorites, and scheduling issues. Despite which, America’s ever-shriveling space program, to its credit, has managed to coax a mission into orbit.

Hubble scores first actual picture of planets outside our Solar System

It’s taken eight years, but this is a truly never to be repeated event. Formalhaut b, 25 light years away, is a speck, but it’s the first sight of other worlds by another star, two small ones and a giant. Astronomers are dancing in the streets.

Hubble’s 100,000th orbit finds a jeweled pinup in the Tarantula Nebula

Hubble continues its astonishing career as a modern wonder of the world. It’s found a fabulous “firestorm of raw stellar creation” in the Large Magellanic Cloud. A color scheme that would terrify any artist, but it’s Hubble’s stock in trade.
