Ottawa - On March 21, 2013 the Canadian Conservative government of Stephen Harper has effectively merged the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)

Curtained behind the bloated non-profit sector working in Haiti are the for-profit corporations who work for USAID. Not much is known about the for-profits because they are accountable only to the organizations that give them funding.

A meeting of the world at the United Nations Wednesday saw nations pledging billions to Haiti for reconstruction. The pledges will cover the first 18 months of reconstruction in all sectors.
