East Stroudsburg - Thanks to her mother's iPhone tracking app, a Pennsylvania woman who was allegedly kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend was rescued, police say.
The woman met her ex-boyfriend,18, in East Stroudsburg to discuss custody of a child.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the boyfriend bound the woman's hands, feet, and mouth with duct tape, then forced her into the trunk of a vehicle, CBS News reports.
In a statement, police say they were "notified by the victim's mother that her daughter had been taken against her will by her ex-boyfriend." The woman's mother told police that she was receiving text messages from her daughter asking for help. By using the iCloud and "Find My iPhone" app, the woman was able to keep track of her teen daughter's cellphone, NBC News reports.
The young woman, 18, was found in a car in Milesburg, Pennsylvania, which is about 150 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Joseph Boller, 18, faces kidnapping charges, and police allege he may have been trying to travel to another state. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next week, The New York Daily News reports.
NBC News reports his bail has been set at $150,000.
Techworm reports that the "Find My iPhone" feature is uniquely designed for tracking down stolen iPhones. In one case last August, a Texas businessman managed to find his iPhone by using the app after dropping it 9,300 feet while on a flight in the U.S.
The app definitely served a useful purpose in potentially saving this young woman's life.
