“Can we build a better phone for our most engaged customers?” Bezos asked at a special press conference. “Can we build a better phone for Amazon Prime members? Well, i’m excited to tell you that the answer is yes.”
The Verge reports that the phone will feature a 4.7-inch HD display, Qualcomm processors, aluminum buttons and 2 GB of ram. Bezos also said the phone will feature stereo speakers which will provide better-quality sound than most other smartphones, and even a pair of magnetic earbuds that won’t tangle.
The phone will have a 13-megapixel camera and optical image stabilization. Bezos says that no matter what the conditions (ex low light) the phone will take great pictures. Through Amazon’s cloud service, Fire Phone users will have unlimited storage for their photos. The phone itself will feature a button that allows for quick access to camera functionality.
BGR adds that there are six camera modules within the phone, which allows users to experience 3D effects and use motion gestures to control their phone.
The Fire Phone will also, it goes without saying, integrate with Amazon’s many services including Amazon Prime, Prime Music (its new music streaming service) and services like X Ray, which allows users to get more information on the video they’re watching.
The buildup to this announcement was filled with speculation after being announced a few months ago.
