In the sixth round, Spence knocked down Bundu with an uppercut though it was ruled not a knockdown but a push. Subsequently, Spence finished him with a big right for the win. After the stoppage, Spence was ahead on the three judges scorecards.
With his KO win over Bundu, Spence becomes the mandatory challenger to Kell Brook for the IBF welterweight title but his winning of the eliminator fight came after Brook had already signed up to face Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 10 at the O2 Arena, London, England.
“This is a title eliminator so I definitely want my shot at the IBF title,” Spence said. “Either this year or early next year but hopefully it’s this year. I want to fight Kell Brook. He has the IBF world title. I paid my dues and it’s time to fight for the IBF,” he added.
Spence is coming off a TKO win over Chris Algieri last April 16 at the Barclays Center, New York City, New York. After the Algieri fight, Spence talked about his desire to face Brook being the mandatory contender.
“I’m the No. 1 contender to Kell Brook, so Kell Brook knows what time it is,” Spence said. “We got to get in the ring and fight. [Titleholder] Danny Garcia and all the rest of the welterweight champions, I want them all — doesn’t matter who.” he added. Read more:
