Roman Gonzalez targets 45th win against McWilliams Arroyo

Gonzalez is unbeaten in 44 fights since turning pro in 2005. Popularly known as “Chocolatito,” Gonzalez is targeting his 45th win as he aims to preserve his unbeaten record.

Gonzalez is coming off a ninth-round TKO win against Brian Viloria last October at the Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York to retain his WBC, Lineal & The Ring Flyweight titles.

The 28-year-old fighter from Managua, Nicaragua, is the reigning Ring’s pound-for-pound king and the current WBC flyweight champion.

Gonzalez has 86 percent KO rate having knocked out 38 of his 44 opponents since his professional debut in 2005. He has won his last 10 fights via TKO since his unanimous decision win against Juan Farncisco Estrada in 2012.

In a recent press conference, Gonzalez was asked if he will go for a knockout win over Arroyo on Saturday. He said he welcomes a KO win but he’s not looking for it.

“I have never said that I am going to knock an opponent out. I am going to give my best and I am going to pay attention to my corner and if the knockout comes, then I welcome it but I am not looking for the knockout,” Gonzalez said.

For his part, McWilliams, who is coming off a TKO win over Victor Ruiz last year after losing to Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand in 2014 said he is motivated to win.when asked about the possibility of winning against Gonzalez

“I didn’t just start yesterday. I have been boxing all my life. I am here to fight the best. I have always wanted to fight the best. The training that I have and the experience – I already know that I can give my best. At the end of the day the best man will win. I am very motivated and I am going to the ring for the win,” he said.
