According to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, an announcement could come in the next two days following his meeting with Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz in his house Monday.
“‘We should have an answer in the next day or so based on what Michael said and then we go to work,” Arum told Boxing Scene.
Arum said he has talked to Koncz after hearing about his brief phone conversation with Adrien Broner a few days ago about a possible Pacquiao-Broner fight.
Earlier in the week Broner said in a video interview on Fytehype that he actually got a call from Michael Koncz.
“We had a real nice meeting with Michael and he understands. So we’re going with the original group and we’ll see where it goes from there.” said Arum, who was surprised to learn about the Broner issue.
Arum has prepared a list of three possible opponents for Pacquiao’s April 9 scheduled fight which include Terence Crawford, Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan. The list was reduced to two when Khan walked away from the long-running talks to work on his next options.
Pacquiao was expected to announce his next opponent during the Donaire-Juarez fight in Puerto Rico early this month but held his announcement in abeyance without citing the cause of the postponement.
Arum has given Pacquiao until the end of this month to make his choice in order to give enough time for the promotional aspect of the fight.
