Pacquiao could peak too soon if gym work starts early

This was disclosed by Pacquiao’s longtime adviser Michael Koncz following reports that the fighting senator is taking his opponent for granted when he seemed to have prioritized his senate duties over his training for the Horn fight.

Pacquiao was set to start his formal training for the Horn fight Tuesday but opted to attend the opening session of the senate instead of starting his training at the Elorde Gym near the senate offices in Pasay City, Philippines. Read more.

On Friday, Pacquiao said this week was only for light training as he was seen jogging in his Makati neighborhood along with his wife Jinkee.

“We are on schedule. This week, it would just be a light training then next week, I will start going to the gym,” Pacquiao told Philboxing.com.

Koncz said Pacquiao gives out his best when in training camp and there is a danger of over training if he starts gym works early.

“In my life, I have never seen a boxer who trains as hard as Manny Pacquiao. He’s one of a kind. That’s why it’s dangerous to start the training early as he might peak too soon.” Koncz said.

Pacquiao and long-time trainer Freddie Roach have yet to reunite in Manila for the Horn training camp. Earlier Roach said the next six weeks will be spent in Manila and General Santos City while the remaining two weeks will take place in Brisbane, Australia, for a total training period of eight weeks.

Roach was recently in the UK with new pupil WBA (Regular) super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg, who was victorious over Romanian challenger Viorel Simion in the undercard of the Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko fight at the Wembley Arena in London.
